Much of her life has been devoted to improving opportunities for her people through education, building great relationships between all community members, and working to look after the language and culture of the Gunggari people. They have a direct connection to their ancestors along the river. The river has been a place of births and deaths as well as burials and corroborees. For these women and many others the Yumba is “home and always will be”. This PowerPoint has a timeline, newspaper clippings, photographs of past and present, maps showing tribal areas and boundaries and Native Title information. Read carefully.

****Dandiiri Maiwar is an exhibition produced by Queensland State Museum. Dandiiri Maiwar ('meet at the river') is a vibrant and living Cultures Centre showcasing Queensland's Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. People can learn about Aboriginal cultures and Torres Strait Islander cultures from long ago through to the present day. Once you click on the link the page will open at Events and Exhibitions, find the subheading 'Exhibitions', click on this. Scroll down and click on the title Dandiiri Maiwar . There will be several sections of interest including; Welcome to Country, Living and Working the Land, Living Under the Act, Perspectives, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voices (stories) and Learning Resources. Some will be harder to navigate than others.
