Life and times of the Gunggari People
The purpose of this Pathfinder is for students of year 7 to learn about and celebrate the culture and creativity of the Gunggari (ungari [silent g]) people of South West Queensland. Through reading, viewing and listening, knowledge of this nation will be developed. The resources will help to explore the richness of life through the many experiences and views of the local Gunggari people of the Mitchell Yumba, past and present.
The Yumba is of importance to the aboriginal community of Mitchell and further afield. It was the home to many aboriginal people in and around the Maranoa region. It was also a learning ground, housing families and a school many years ago. The Yumba was central to many activities focussed on the language and culture of the local aboriginal people, the Gunggari. It is now a place for peace and reflection, family gatherings and sharing of culture.
